I spoke with my sleep apnea specialist about this outpatient surgical procedure. His opinion at this time is that he would like to see 5 years worth of follow-up information before recommending it to his patients. He explained that the way it works is stiff synthetic plates or discs are surgically implanted in the soft palate. The palate then builds up scar tissue in response to the foreign objects, and stiffens. Because it's a permanent change to the soft palate, and because we only have one soft palate, he is being very cautious. I wonder what others are saying.
